Alcohol on a plane can be pretty pricey, and sometimes they don’t have the options passengers enjoy. Many people prefer to take their own alcohol in airplane bottle sizes and want to know if nips are allowed on a plane.

Nips sealed in original packaging are allowed on planes in checked luggage and cannot exceed 3.4 oz or 100 ml in hand luggage. They must be placed in the quart-sized liquid resealable bag. Only nips under 70% alcohol (140 proof) are allowed on airplanes. Passengers are not permitted to drink nips on the plane.

Can You Take Nips In Carry-On Bags

Passengers are permitted to take alcohol nips in carry-on bags. The TSA does not have an issue with nips; security will allow passengers to pass through security control. There are a few guidelines when carrying nips in your hand luggage:

  • The alcohol content must not exceed 70% (140 proof). Any alcohol that exceeds that will not be permitted on a plane.
  • All your nips must be in their original bottles and packaging and sealed. That way, the TSA agents can be sure of what is inside. Opened nips may be confiscated.
  • Your nips will most likely need to be removed from your bags and placed in an individual tray for secondary screening.
  • The final decision rests with the TSA personnel; if they suspect anything, they can confiscate your nips.
